Episode 2 takes a gothic turn as I follow in Dracula’s footsteps. From a pint at the Green Dragon and a quirky shop wander, to climbing the 199 Steps, exploring St Mary’s graveyard, circling the Abbey ruins and descending the Donkey Road — this was a day tracing the darker side of Whitby.

In Episode 1 of my Whitby adventure, I explore the town’s cosy accommodation, quirky shops, and sweet treats before tucking into famous fish and chips at Magpie’s. From fudge tasting to jet jewellery and a stop at Captain Cook’s statue, it’s a delicious introduction to Whitby’s shops, food and harbour life.

Step into the Yorkshire Wolds and walk through the haunting remains of Wharram Percy, England’s most famous deserted medieval village. On a golden late-summer’s day I explored its ruined church, graveyards, and vanished homes, and discovered that the people you meet along the way can be just as memorable as the history itself.

Discover York beyond the postcards: abbey ruins, bustling markets, crooked lanes, and a cathedral 250 years in the making. This city truly surprised me.
